Angel Reese has been ROASTED AND BLASTED by fans for ‘hot potato’ shots despite setting WNBA record
Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese made headlines once again, but this time, it’s not just for her impressive stats.
While Reese set a WNBA record with her tenth consecutive double-double during Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Lynx, netizens had a field day roasting her for her less-than-stellar shooting performance.
Despite scoring 10 points and grabbing a whopping 17 rebounds, Reese struggled with her shooting, going just 4 of 16 from the field-a dismal 25% field goal percentage. This is particularly poor for a post player who takes most of their shots close to the basket.
One X user, @alxshier, couldn’t resist poking fun at Reese’s missed shots. They posted a screenshot of a section of Sunday’s game log showing Reese missing three consecutive close shots, grabbing three rebounds, and then finally making the fourth shot. The caption read, “Angel Reese just playing hot potato off the backboard.”
Every rebound is EARNED. 3-4 bodies on her, it don’t matter. I’ll take Angel Reese over a LAZY HO any day. pic.twitter.com/RSHxloC0PX

The post went viral, racking up over 1.3 million views on X and sparking a hilarious thread of comments. One fan quipped, “‘She averaging double double’ yea I’d hope so 8 of the rebounds are from her bricking layups.” Another chimed in with, “ANGEL REESE WITH ANOTHER DOUBLE DOUBLE!!! Yeah and half of them are her own misses.”
Reese continues breaking records
Reese’srecord-breaking performance saw her surpass Candace Parker’s previous record of nine consecutive double-doubles set in 2015 with the Los Angeles Sparks. Impressively, Parker was 29 and in her eighth season when she set the bar, making Reese’s achievement at just 22 years old even more remarkable.
With just over a minute left in the game, Reese needed three points to secure her double-double. The Sky star rookie showed her tenacity by repeatedly rebounding her own missed shots in the paint, eventually scoring with 40.1 seconds remaining. A loose ball foul with 23 seconds left gave her two free throws, and despite missing the first, she nailed the second to clinch the record.
While Reese’s finishing ability might need some improvement, there’s no denying her talent and determination. As she continues to develop her game, fans will undoubtedly keep a close eye on this rising star, both for her record-breaking performances and the occasional comedic moments on the court.
