4 of Prince Harry’s Most Heart-Melting Quotes About Being a Father
Happy Father’s Day! To mark the occasion, we’ve rounded up some of Prince Harry’s quotes about being a dad to his and Meghan Markle’s two children, 5-year-old Prince Archie and 3-year-old Princess Lilibet. From silly and sweet to advice for fellow parents, the Duke of Sussex has opened up about being a father on many occasions.
1. Harry called fatherhood ‘amazing’ shortly after Prince Archie’s birth
Not long after becoming a father when Archie was born on May 6, 2019, Harry described what it felt like to reporters at Windsor Castle.
“Parenting is amazing. It’s only been what, two and a half days, three days,” he said. “But we’re just so thrilled to have our own little bundle of joy. We have to spend some precious time with him as he slowly starts to grow up.”
The short quote had multiple heart-melting moments. Harry calling parenting “amazing”—so sweet. Referring to Archie as his and Meghan’s “bundle of joy,” could it get any cuter? Yes, it could and did when Harry said they’d be spending “precious time” together. Adding to the sweetness was Harry’s beaming smile as he spoke to the cameras (seen below).
2. Archie and Lilibet keep Prince Harry and Meghan Markle laughing and ‘grounded’
In perhaps what might be the most relatable quote about fatherhood from Harry, he described what Archie and Lili do for him and Meghan on a daily basis.
“The kids are doing great. The kids are growing up like all kids do, very, very fast,” Harry said in a February 2024 interview.
“They’ve both got an incredible sense of humor, and they make us laugh and keep us grounded every single day, like most kids do,” Harry added, noting he’s “just very grateful to be a dad.”
3. Harry on appreciating ‘family time’
During coronavirus (COVID-19), Harry opened up about life at home. On a WellChild charity call, he remarked on almost feeling “guilty” for the large amount of “family time.”
“[One positive is] being able to have family time. So much family time that you almost think, ‘Do I feel guilty for having so much family time?’” he said (via UsWeekly).
“You’ve got to celebrate those moments where you are just on the floor rolling around in hysterics,” Harry continued. “Inevitably, half an hour later, maybe a day later, there’s going to be something that you have to deal with, and there’s no way you can run away from it.”
4. Prince Harry fatherhood quotes: ‘Stay in touch with your childhood side’
While this isn’t technically a quote from Harry about being a dad, this one is about being a godfather. Specifically, what the now-39-year-old told The Telegraph in 2017 about getting parenting practice by being godfather to “quite a few” children.
“I, of course, I would love to have kids,” Harry told the publication, noting he’s had practice as a godfather. “I’m a godfather to quite a few of my friends’ [kids]. Actually, only five or six. I’d like to think [I am a good godfather].”
Now for the “key” to doing it well. “I think the key to that is to grow up but also to be able to stay in touch with your childhood side,” Harry said.
“If that means going to someone’s house and sitting there and playing PlayStation and kicking the a** of their son or whatever it is, then I’ll try and do that. I’ve actually had a lot of practice for that.”
So, godfather, godmother, or parent, try to “stay in touch with your childhood side.”
